Job Profile


Harris Health System Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) functions as a clinical provider in various clinical areas to evaluate, plan and provide care for patients in consultation with and under the direct supervision of attending  physician and serves as a clinical leader responsible for facilitating quality patient care in collaboration with pavillion leaders, nursing staff and other disciplines. The APN provides both programmatic and individually-delegated patient care. The APN serves as a clinical expert and consultant  to support the healthcare system  in providing patient-centered, culturally-competent, outcome-focused therapeutic care within the management of specified populations through independent and collaborative clinical management. The APN aligns practice with professional rules and regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies and procedures.
The APN leads programmatic initiatives for care improvement  that is congruent with the strategic and operational goals of the  pavilion. The APN  provides personalized care and service consistent with the Harris Health System care values on people, diversity and inclusion, compassionate care, trust, integrity, mutual respect, communication, and education.

1.Education/Licensure/Specialized Training:

i.Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with a Masters degree in Nursing with completion of a university-based program for Advanced Practice Nurse.

i.Current RN license with the Texas Board of Nursing (TX BON);
ii.Current recognition as an APN with the Texas Board of Nursing (TX BON);
iii.Current prescriptive authorization (or eligibility) number from the Texas Board of Nursing (TX BON);
iv.Current specialty certification from nationally recognized certifying organizations;
v.Current and unrestricted Drug Enforcement Registration (DEA) License (or will be required to obtain have a DEA registration license within 3 months of hire) (Nurse Practitioner);
vi.Basic Life Support from a hospital-based American Heart Association (AHA) approved program
vii.Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification from American Heart Association (as appropriate to specialty area);
viii.Current Pediatric Advance Life Support from American Heart Association (as appropriate to specialty area).

2.Work Experience: New APN graduate may apply
1-3 years of APN experience preferred
3-5 years of RN experience in related clinical area of practice preferred

3.Management Experience: Prior leadership/education experience preferred
