Nurse Residency Program at Harris Health System
This 12-month program is designed to provide a collaboration of education and practice aimed at providing new graduates planned practice experiences with qualified nurses who have received formal training in their role as preceptor. New graduates receive support from their preceptor, education and leadership teams in the development of five transition core competencies, which include: communication and teamwork, patient-centered care, evidence-based practice, quality improvement and informatics.
Harris Health System offers three nursing residency programs annually:
Spring/February, Summer/July, and Fall/October
Applications are typically accepted six months prior to each session.

The Harris Health System Nurse Residency Program is an evidence-based and organizationally-constructed program whose goals include best-practice guidelines aimed at supporting new graduates transition to practice.
Resident Experience
Our nursing residency program is a structured one-year learning experience focused on the nurse residency clinical specialty area. Each nurse resident will be assigned a qualified preceptor to help the novice nurse grow and expand knowledge and skills. Residents take part in learning activities and extended clinical experiences that focus on transitioning them into a safe clinical practice.

Nurse Residency Requirements
You must be a graduate from an accredited nursing school, Bachelor preferred. The ideal candidate will have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
You must be a graduate nurse with less than one year of experience.

NRP application is now closed for summer 2023 and no longer taking applications, the next cohort applications will open May 29th for the fall cohort starting on Oct 23rd, 2023. Please come back for any additional updates.

When requested, please submit:
- Copy of current resume
- Nurse Residency Survey Questionnaire (to be provided by Human Resources upon completion of online application)
Step 2:
Submit Nurse Residency Requirements Upon Hire as listed below.

Nurse Residency Requirements Upon Hire
- Official transcript from accredited nursing school
- Basic life support certification from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross--must be valid for 6 months or more upon hire
- RN license from the state
Nursing Fellowship Program
About the Fellowship
This 12-week program provides a specialized orientation process that includes exceptional didactic and clinical experiences for novice and advanced beginner nurses.
