JOB SUMMARY:   

The Harris Health System Bed Management Coordinator (BMC) is responsible for working with the Harris Health System Patient Throughput Manager to independently manage the bed utilization process.  The BMC collaborates with nursing and support services to ensure appropriate patient placement consistent with patient needs and ongoing hospital activities.  The BMC monitors discharges and is responsible for notifying the Patient Throughput Manager or designee when bed availability reaches critical levels or potential area-specific bottlenecks occur.  In order to ensure efficient bed utilization and turnaround, the BMC is responsible for directing prioritization of bed cleaning.  The BMC assists with continuous quality improvement for bed management.  The BMC participates in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of service/unit plans, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.  The BMC complies with established standards as established by professional nursing organizations, national, state, and local regulatory agencies, and institutional policies and procedures.  The BMC upholds high standards of integrity and ethical behavior, mentors others, role models professionalism, and participates in professional and community activities. 
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   

Education/Licensure/Specialized Training:
Education: Graduation from an accredited School of Licensed Vocational Nursing.
Licensure: Current license or valid permit to practice as a licensed vocational nurse within the State of Texas.; Basic Life Support from a hospital-based American Heart Association (AHA) approved program.

Work Experience:   One (1) year of work experience in a clinical care setting.
