Job Summary:
The Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO) is a senior executive leader responsible for driving the strategic vision, governance, and optimization of clinical information systems within the organization. As a key member of the executive leadership team, the CMIO ensures that health IT initiatives align with organizational priorities, enhance provider efficiency, and improve patient outcomes.
The CMIO serves as the primary bridge between clinical care and technology, ensuring that electronic health records (EHRs) and other digital health solutions support evidence-based medicine, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. This role requires deep clinical expertise, extensive informatics knowledge, and strong leadership skills to drive innovation, manage change, and enhance the digital experience for providers and patients alike.
The CMIO is responsible for overseeing multi-million-dollar health IT investments, ensuring they deliver measurable improvements in care quality, patient safety, physician satisfaction, and financial performance. By leading data-driven initiatives, optimizing clinical workflows, and championing interoperability, the CMIO plays a pivotal role in shaping the organization's long-term digital transformation strategy and ensuring competitive positioning in an evolving healthcare landscape.
The CMIO will report up to the Chief Health Informatics Officer (CHIO) and have a matrixed reporting relationship with the Chief Medical Executive (CME).
Minimum Qualifications
Degrees:
Masters degree in Health Informatics
Doctor of Medicine
License & Certifications: Board Certified in Clinical Informatics from ABMS.
Work Experience: Ten (10) years of experience to include a combination: as a provider (may include residency); informatics; EMR implementation, Epic EMR (preferably in Ambulatory and Inpatient); experience in an academic medical center environment; process improvement/quality management. Three (3) years of CMIO experience in an academic medical center preferred.
Management Experience: Seven (7) Years of Management experience as instructor or progressive management roles, with at least five (5) years in a supervisory capacity.

Other Requirements:
The CMIO role is structured as a full-time, non-clinical leadership position within Harris Health. However, the CMIO may engage in clinical practice in addition to their full-time informatics duties, contingent upon the needs of the health system and at the discretion of the CHIO and executive leadership. Any clinical time will be structured to ensure that it does not conflict with the CMIO's primary informatics leadership responsibilities.
