Job Summary
The Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer II (DCS II) is proficient in providing high quality cardiac ultrasound images of the heart and great vessels, assessment of myocardial function, recording of hemodynamic measurements, and visualization of blood flow using 2D, M-mode, color-flow and spectral Doppler. The DCS II performs Stress Echocardiograms, Dobutamine Stress Echo, and assists with Transesophageal Echocardiograms. The DCS II establishes peripheral intravenous access and administers Ultrasound Enhancing Agents according to established protocol and standing medical order (SMO). The DCS II retrieves, communicates and presents information in a written, oral or visual fashion. The DCS II functions as a preceptor to staff and students and assists daily with patient scheduling and procedures to ensure efficient workflow.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: or GED. Graduation from a CAHEP accredited Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer program
Licensure & Certifications:
- 1. Reg Diag Cardiac Sonographer (Or) Reg Cardiac Sonographer through ARDMS or CCI
with second registry, (And) Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) or Registered Pediatric Echocardiography and / or Certified Cardiographic Technologist is required with three years of experience.
- 2. Or Reg Diag Cardiac Sonographer (Or) Reg Cardiac Sonographer through ARDMS or CCI with five years of experience
- Basic Life Support from an American Heart Association (AHA) or Red Cross approved program.
Work Experience:
- Three (3) years hospital experience preferred; Three years of experience and two certifications
OR
- Five years of experience hospital experience preferred and one certification
Management Experience: Six (6) months of management Operational experience related to patient scheduling and flow is preferred.
Job Attributes
Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 8 hr shift 0645-1515, rotating Saturdays, off on Sundays and major Holidays.
Equipment Operated: Various ultrasound and cardiology related machines; Philips EPIQ echo machines
Location: LBJ Hospital
