Skills / Requirements


The Nurse Patient Educator I (NPE I) provides self-management support utilizing teaching/learning principles, strategies, tools, and interventions to develop informed and engaged patients.

The NPE I educates patients/families and team members using the nursing process, knowledge and skills. The NPE I communicates and collaborates with patients/families and team members and uses resources and systems to enhance patient outcomes.


Education/specialized training/licensure:
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelors degree in nursing required.
Certification in related specialty preferred.
Current license or valid permit to practice professional nursing in Texas.

Work experience: Two (2) years of work experience in a related clinical area of practice.
                               One (1) year patient education experience.

Other Requirements:
Fluent in spoken and written Spanish for Ambulatory Care Services - Preferred
Travel between Harris Health System Facilities and in the community


Communication Skills:
Exceptional Verbal (e.g., Public Speaking)         
Bilingual Skills:      Languages:     bilingual preferred in other areas (except ACS)
Writing /Composing (Correspondence/Reports)
